The Full Worm Moon: Weaving the Future
The month of March brings us the full Worm Moon and the thawing of the earth. The days are growing longer and the sun warms the world as it awakes from winter's cold slumber. We are finally seeing the true return of the green things as flowers poke their heads up from the earth towards the sun.
As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins and other birds. The March moon is known by many names; The more northern tribes knew this moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter. Others knew it as Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. Yet another version is The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter.
For the witches of The Glades Edge, it was a much needed gathering after a long winter. We caught up over veggies, hummus, and a glass of wine as the sky outside began to darken with the coming of evening. We decided to keep our festivities indoors in respect of the sudden cold snap and damp weather. Thanks to a thoughtful husband, a fire was already crackling merrily in the hearth as we set up our altar space.
The ritual was built around weaving intent into the tapestry of our lives using a literal weaving. Fortunately Ayda is a skilled crafter and made us some small looms with wood and nails for our full moon craft. We started with a small ritual opening and chant as we sat before the merrily crackling fire and then began our weaving.
It was a warm, comforting, and lovely evening based around the hearth. The wind and cold may have battered at the windows but inside, friendship and magic brought a warm and loving glow to the house.
We can't wait to see what next month brings!
Blessings!
