The Full Harvest Moon: Reaping What You Sew

September brings us to the time of the Harvest Moon. It has also been called the Wine Moon, the Corn Moon, or the Singing Moon. The last of the crops are being harvested from the fields and it is a time to store the bounty of the year for the coming winter.

There's a chill in the night air as the earth slowly begins to go dormant and the sun recedes. It's also the time of year when we celebrate Mabon, the autumn equinox.

Correspondences:

  • Colors: Browns and greens, earth tones

  • Gemstones: Citrine, chrysolite, peridot, bloodstone

  • Trees: Bay, larch, hawthorn

  • Gods: Demeter, Brighid, Freyja, Vesta

  • Herbs: Wheat, valerian, witch hazel, skullcap

  • Element: Earth

This is a month of hearth and home. Spend some time preparing your environment for the upcoming chilly months. If you don't already have one, set up a hearth or kitchen altar for those times when you're cooking, baking and canning. Use this time to clear out clutter -- both physical and emotional -- before you have to spend the long winter days inside.

We started our Harvest Moon celebrations with a local hike where we had the pleasure of communing with nature and exploring a dry river bed.

After our hike, we came back and set up for tonight's ritual which included some trance work as well as some light drawing down.

We had also been preparing a new flying ointment to add to our collection. We are trying a mandrake and wormwood infusion this time.

After the sun had set, it was time for our Full Harvest Moon ritual to begin. We headed outside and lit the incense and candles in preparation to begin our ritual.

We decided that this month's full moon would be a low key time for us to rejuvenate our energy and to do some introspection and personal journey work. After cleansing and calling, we did some light drawing down as we faced the beautiful fall harvest moon. She was large and beautiful in the night sky and we chose to call upon her this night. We then quietly retreated to different areas for some journey work.

Both of us felt strongly pulled to the other side and took a while to fully feel we had been returned. After journeying, we enjoyed hummus and fresh veggies and bottled our flying ointment. It was a relaxing night that was just we had been needing over these busy weeks.
